Yes, power supplies do burn out on occasion. It's fairly easy to pull out the old one, take it a computer store and buy another one. Make sure you get the same wattage or larger then the one that burned out unless you need to it to be super quiet/efficent [which will cost a lot]. Prices should be from $40-$90. Try newegg.com for a good standard for prices.

Yes, computer power supplies normally last around 5 years, but can go much earlier.... They cost between $35 and $150 in most cases...
