Try annual begonias. They do well with little sun and really look great as they grow out from the container. They get large so 2-3 per container is plenty. Mine are still blooming here in Delaware and we have had some cold nights!

We've always done well with the Boston Fern in the north east. just make sure your climate would encourage this Ferns development

Wave petunias look great and smell great and have many colours and shapes to choose from.
But in the spring you can find many other nice plants in your local nursery .

Petunias are your best bet. If your temperature doesn't get too bad, you can try some ivy plants as well.
