Seriously, my CPU has this terrible smell that randomly comes from it every day. Someone in the office says it smells like a dead mouse. Is it electrical or can a rodent find its way into the unit?

It doesn't smell electrical; it's just an unpleasant smell. Sometimes the smell is real strong and sometimes it's barely there.

Try taking the case off, the most likely cause is melting plastic from a broken fan such as the CPU fan.

It is possible that you have some sort of dead creature in there but rather unlikely as there are not many ways to get in to the case when it is put together. It's safe to take the cover off your computer and look inside, just don't touch anything if you don't know what's what.

It might need a good clean the fans get really covered in dust and stuff. The fan turns on and off when necessary that's why the smell is intermittent. Or someone is letting rip by you.

it could be dust burning or maybe the paste used on the heatsink which sits on the cpu is a funny brand!!!! is there enough ventilation for the tower? if it's against a wall then give about 6 inches room at back for heat to exhaust. or maybe a fan has ceased up. or..............someone has stuck a dead mouse in it for a laugh. GET IT SEEN TO!!!

Can you describe the smell? Does it smell like electrical burn or something different?

CPU's(processors)don't smell. Do you mean the tower case? You could have a decaying critter in it! :-)=
