Here are the facts.

1. The closest Galaxy is the Canis Major Dwarf galaxy
2. The Canis Major Dwarf galaxy is 42,000 light years away.
3. Traveling in a conventional space craft would take
approx 4,927,184,640,000 years at 50,000 mi/hour
4. Using light sails (a cutting edge untested technology)
a craft could travel as fast as 25% the speed of light.
5. At 25% the speed of light it would take 168,000 Earth years to
reach the Canis Major dwarf.

Unless we discover some miracle like a space warp no human will ever travel to another galaxy. Here's the problem. Imagine you had a flashlight and shone it to the east and stretch your imagination (and the laws of physics) and imagine that the light could travel in a curved path hugging the surface of the earth. Light travels at about 186,000 miles per second. According to Einstein, and most scientists agree, that is the fastest anything will ever go. At that speed the light from your flashlight would travel around the earth and pass you on the way eight times in one second. Now, if you shone that light straight out into space travelling at that terrific speed, it would take almost one and one half million years to reach the nearest galaxy. Obviously no human being would ever survive even a portion of the trip.

It might be possible for a man-made object to reach another galaxy, but it would take an exceedingly long period of time -- many orders of magnitude longer than a human life span.

Consider this: Voyager 1 ( http://voyager.jpl.nasa.gov/ ) was launched nearly 30 years ago. It is traveling at about 42,000 miles per hour, and is JUST NOW reaching the outer limits of our solar system. That means that it is just leaving the area where our sun exerts a significant influence. The nearest star to our sun is Proxima Centauri, which is about 4 light years away. At that distance, it would take Voyager 1 about 65,000 years simply to reach THE NEAREST STAR.

The nearest galaxy of which we are aware is the Canis Major dwarf galaxy, which is about 25,000 light years from our sun. At that distance, it would take Voyager 1 about 402 Million years to reach the nearest galaxy.

No, you would die before ever getting to another galaxy due to the immense distance, and if we could cut down the trip time to lets say 20 years as an example, your body would really be too weak to explore any planets there. Your muscles atrophy from weightlessness.

It's spelled galaxy and no, mankind does not yet have the capability to do so. Other galaxies are very far away and nothing we have built has been able to reach one.

There is no such thing as another galaxy. The whole universe is in one. It's way to big for there to be any others. And for those of you that think there are only nine planets in the galaxy, you're mistaken.

o one can ever travel to another galaxy as even the fastest moving light takes several million years to reach othere galaxies .The mass of any paricle sets a limit to its speed as the speed increaes the mass which would retard speed .Even at the speed of light , it won't be possible for any oine to reach any ohee galaxy as no humans would be able to live for thousands and millions of years

Yes, but it would take thousands or millions of years with our current technology. Space distances are so huge and hard to measure in kilometers that units such as lightyears and parsecs had to be created.

Can you, yes but it would take so long to get to one that you would be dead a thousand times over. But feel free to try. You'd certainly make the headlines.
