There is a question going around on answers in the pet catagory about a cat having a litter of cat/dogs. Is it not impossible for the two to breed, they are different species, they can't can they? There are some people out there that are telling that poore girl it is possible, someone with a degree please verify this for me. I'm pretty sure I know better, but I would like some back up on this. Thanks!

100% impossible! They have different genetic makeup. It like saying you can breed a half man half dog.

No- Cats can't have puppies, no more than you can have a cow.

It's simple genetics. If it were so easy for animals to interbreed like that, there would be no shortage of diversity of life on this planet.

Chimpanzees are similar to humans except by one chromaosone. I haven't seen any Chimp/humans running around, so even with such close biological similarities it's still impossible for the two species to make babies.

I think people are having fun with this person. Don't take everything so seriously.

The absolutely cannot reproduce together. There exists something called sperm specificity where only certain sperm of a certain size and shape can fertalize the egg of a female. Dogs and cats just are not compatible. The Liger exampe exists because there is a high degree of relatedness in all wild cats. They are all so genetically similiar that they can successfully interbreed. Cats and dogs are so different that they cannot naturally do so.

Animals of the same species cannot breed together. A human cannot breed even with a gorilla, the genetics are not compatable and the mothers uterus would reject the fetus.

Smallest breed is the Singapura (adults weigh approximately 4-5 lbs). Rexes are 2nd smallest (commonplace 5-6 lbs). My favs are Ocicats, Cornish Rexes, Oriental SH's Favs in canines are: whippets, pugs, cairn terriers.

Well there was liger. Half Tiger half Lion. I think it would be rare but it probably could happen. I had a rabbit once who would mate with a dog but nothing came of it.

It would be great if you could. You would have something with the loyalty of a cat, and the cleanliness of a dog.
