I can't believe it either! Wood's mechanics are terrible and always have been. The guy never learned how to pitch correctly. Prior has the same problem. They will never pitch an entire season without breaking down. The Cubs will never do anything until they address this issue. The other problem is hiring Sweet Lou! This guy is a bomb ready to go off. With a sub par team and a short fuse all the Cubs fans will get is Lou's side show and another 90 plus loss season. It's too bad because the Cubs fans deserve much more. And why isn't Ron Santo in the hall of fame????

Although I'm not a Cub fan, I do like the idea of keeping Kerry Around. The Cubs have one thing in mind when they resigned Kerry and thats JOHN SMOLTZ. If you can remember the Smoltz era when his arm turned to flubber but he still wanted to pitch. They threw Smoltz in the Bullpen made him a closer and he dominated the position for 2 plus years. It let him work on his mechanics, the demand on his arm wasn't as great he only pitched 1 to 2 innings if needed. And it let him rebuild the strength in his arm. And what happened he came back to the rotation and once again he's the John Smoltz of old. I think Kerry can do the same thing. I dont believe he's a washed up pitcher, but I do believe he needs some time to heal, work on his mechanics and build his arm strength and confidence back up to where it used to be. Plus can you really go into another season with give the game away dempster again? I think not.
Good move for the Cubs but they still have a long way to go in rebuilding.

They've signed him to small money and are going to try him in middle relief. Will he ever be what they projected? No.
Can he be effective if the spot is chosen for him? Absolutely. He's got the stuff, just not the durability. Perhaps using him an inning or two, several times a week will keep him from breaking down.
In any event, considering the price of relievers, the Cubs got a deal, and if he does wind up on the DL again, they aren't risking anywhere nearly as much money.
All-in-all, a good move if you ask me.

The Cubs have taken the route of depending on two pitchers who've been on the DL almost exclusively for the past 2-3 years and it's extremely stupid. You can't do that in baseball...especially today's game.
If I was a Cubs fan, I wouldn't be happy about this decision whatsoever.

He took a pay-cut to stay in Chicago. He could have signed for more elsewhere but wanted to stay in Chicago, knowing damn well he would not be a starter there anymore. He's preparing to go into a closer role, which will cut down on chances of him getting hurt again. I think he'll do good in the closer role. I actually think this was a very smart move for the Cubs.

the cubs resigned kerry woods because they wanted to take one last chance with him. and based on the fact that he would be a reliver and we have four other great relievers (one we got from the white sox's neal cotts) even if he does get hurt it wouldn't cause so much damage to the team. as it did when he was a starter. sot that is why the cubs decided to resign kerry woods.

Like many others, I have no idea. They already threw away enough money to a guy who lives on the DL. Decisions like this are what keep the Cubs from winning --- not some stupid billy goat who is dead by now.

enormous thumbs up. he appeared reliable popping out of the bullpen final 3 hundred and sixty 5 days. Pitched from mid-August till end of three hundred and sixty 5 days devoid of discomfort or problems. advised reporter in an interview he desires to stay interior the pen and become a closer. i think of he would be reliable and that i additionally wish we re-sign previous. yet another difficulty is loyalty. it is extremely uncommon in activities. And Cubs administration stated timber became down multi-3 hundred and sixty 5 days bargains for additional money to stay in Chicago. You gotta admire that.

Kerry will never be the pitcher he was projected to be. He is too injury prone and cant anchor a rotation. If used in middle and long relief, he could save his arm and possibly be more effective in the long run.

Are you kidding why would they not re-sign him. whens hes not hurt he is one of the best pithers in baseball. Even if he can not start agian he still can close. All he need to do is blow hitters away for one inning instead or the 6 or 7. Plus how can you pass him up for that cheap anything you get out of him will be worth it. same thing with Prior when he is a free agent
