He lost the deomocratic primary for US Sebate in September, 2006. So he decided to run as an independent, thus totally abandoning the democratic party. He ends up winning the November, 2006 election. When elected he said he is going to vote democratic AND he retains his seniority in the Senate, which he earned as a democrat, and is going to be the Chairman of the Senate Homeland Security Committee, amongst others committees. If I was from Connecticut, I'd really be p1s$ed !!!

I like Joe Lieberman. The democratic party needs more men like this guy. He stands by his principles, understands the danger the United States is in in regards to terrorism, and he was willing to lose everything in order to beat a blow hard like Lamont.
Obviously he won and the people of Connecticut voted him in. So obviously the state is more moderate and they did not buy what Lamont had to offer.

I think the Democrats are damn lucky he decided to caucus with them instead of the Republicans. More Republicans and independents voted for him in Connecticut, a more moderate state.

I like the guy. Not many Dems I would vote for because of a lack of trust...(Not many Repubs either for the same reason). Lieberman has always seemed like an honest stand up person.

Closet Republican. He's like many in the Democratic party who are of the old school and the new left-wing fanatical liberals have left him out to dry. I don't agree with him on a lot but he's one of the few dems that I like and trust. Reminds me of Georgia's Zell Miller.

Why would you be mad? His party turned their back on him, and he won anyway. That speaks to the strength of his character. Even without the endorsement of his party, he still won. He seems like a genuinely good and principled man, I respect him.

CT was hosed. I just want to know if he ever decides to bolt the party can he be recalled? I mean the guy was on Meet The Press the other day dropping the hint that he could decide to leave if the Democrats don't give the baby his pacifier.

Yes, but it is not his fault! The laws, rules allow it and everyone would take advantage. Hope that is the worst that happens. He leans toward Conservative Democrat.

regrettably no longer. the terrific we can do is eliminate all his committee assignments 2 years from now, whilst the subsequent Senate gets began. he's in the Senate until 2012 except he breaks the regulation.

I like him too.
I like the fact that an individual can run on principle and ethics and beat the system.
Tell you one thing, people are going to take him serious when he talks now...
Good for Joe...

HE DID A GOOD JOB GETTING REPUBLICANS & INDEPENDENTS TO JOIN HIM. HE IS THE LAST OF A DYING BREED IN THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY A LIBERAL ON SOCIAL
ISSUES & TOUGH ON FOREIGN ISSUES. IF THE DEMS GET TO BE TO DIFFICULT TO DEAL WITH HE WILL SWITCH PARTIES. HE DIDN'T LEAVE THE DEMS THEY LEFT HIM.
