When attempting to install IE 7 - the install fails. I have no idea why. I did receive an error that "iertutil.dll" was not found, however I copied the file into the directory. After that the install simply fails and it tells me to check the 'troubleshooting' website which gives me a bunch of stuff on registry fixes. I dont think I have any reg problems. What else could it be?

I am really trying to find a more in depth answer for you to help explain in greater detail the point my colleagues before I have tried to tell you.
But in further determination I have come to the conclusion that...
... IE and IE7 more to the point ...

Stay away from IE7-it caused all kinds of computer problems for me. I installed Mozilla Firefox and it is excellent I haven't had any problems at all like I did with the Internet Explorer

I know I can't install IE 7 on my laptop because I don't have XP Service Pack 2.

I can't install SP2 unless I download a whole bunch of "fixes" and "security updates", which I know will slow my computer and I don't know if they'll help anyway.

The only reason behind that problem is your operating system i.e. win xp is not licence version. I am also suffering from problem like you. But this is the reason for failure installation.
