Please snopes this for me...I got it from a friend and I trsut her...is it true that some tampon/sanitary pad makers put asbestos in to makeyou bleed more so you'll buy more of their product????

To round this up for those in the bleachers, there is no asbestos in tampons. Depending on the brand, there might be minute amounts of dioxins in some of them, but not (according to the FDA) enough to harm anyone. Thinking consumers might want to reduce their contact with dioxins anyway, trading comfort and absorbency for a bit more peace of mind.

that's an city Legend...the thought is that by having tampons that incorporate asbestos it's going to make you bleed greater stable and longer, thereby makiing you purchase greater tampons for an even bigger earnings for the tampon businesses...greater desirable than probably began by teh PAD businesses LOL. completely untrue do no longer problem.

I wouldn't trust this friend!
Use of asbestos is illegal. Buildings have it ripped out at great expense.
In addition if used like an abrasive it would cause entirely different bleeding and pain.
Sounds like complete bullshit. Use your own common sense.

Asbestos was banned from commercial use in the 70's or some crap. I can't say for sure, but probobly not.
