It would appear his options were fairly limited; it was either a job as a test driver in Formula One or toiling in the Champ Car series (with Red Bull sponsorship). I think he made the right choice and yes, he deserves another chance as a full-time driver in F1; perhaps he'll get it in 2008..

I think that Klien was just a little too young when he started in F1. He was treated very well when you consider his results over the last couple of years. With his results you would have to be insane to offer him anything other that a testing position. Especially when you look at the young talent that is out there eg: Lewis Hamilton. I think that testing would be a very good idea. It would give him the chance to focus solely on his driving technique and not worry about everything else going on. Look at how well Alonso did after he went from Minardi to a testing role with Renault. Maybe in time he will get another chance but he will have to prove himself in the test seat first.

It's only my speculation, but Red Bull had no choice but ditch Klien. At the centre of the driver reshuffling at Red Bull was Flavio, I reckon. Webber (whose manager is Flavio Briatore) wanted out of Williams. Red Bull wanted out of Ferrari contract and they wanted a Renault engine. Flavio said to Horner (Red Bull CEO) something like "Give Webber the seat, and we'll give you the engine" Red Bull has so many drivers in their young drivers programme, and if they wanted to replace Klien just because he wasn't performing well enough, they would have had plenty of candidates from their own pool of drivers. Webber has nothing to do with Red Bull, but still got the seat, which is my main argument for my speculation.
If Klien had stayed at Red Bull, 2007 would have been a great year for him, with lots of great things expected from the Austrian drinks team. But it was not to be, and Honda testing was probably the next best thing he could have hoped for.

Red Bull mistreated him this season because he only scored 2 points over the 15 races in which he has competed this year. Maybe a testing role is better, it's a sort of a year off combined to a training year, a year that, if you remark yourself in testing, like, let's say, Kubica or Kovalainen, can be an excellent springboard for a more succesful career.
I think it's better for him to have this chance.

i think it is great opportunity for a rookie driver to test for a great team as it will give him more experience with a stronger team and cars and it leads him to better prospects in the future maybe racing for Honda.
