Because when we think of where we are in relation to things around us, we orient ourselves from where our head is.
Our "being" exists in our brains, not at our fingertips or feet or, in this case, our nose... so whatever is "anose" of us is, well, irrelevant, because we don't conceptualize ourselves as occupying our noses. We occupy our skulls, and the expressions that evolve in our language reflects this.

Well, if dogs give birth to puppies, but why are guppies just guppies? Or if teachers taught, how come preachers don't praught? You know that kind of thing? It's just in the English language.
