Simply speaking yes. If you overload the battery chances are that the battery fill start showing a full charge when you turn on the notebook but 10-15 minutes later it will show 50% reserve power remaining.

Best way is to charge up the notebook once and run off the battery until it dies out. Hey, its called portable computing for a reason.

My personal experience with a laptop battery is:

If you have a charger then you can plug it in. However always plugging in your laptop instead of using the battery can cause the battery to overcharge sometimes and can ware out. Just like any battery If you leave it alone and do not do anything with it, it will ware itself out regardless. If you charge and discharge it you can get a bit longer life from it.

When you use the battery it is fine to use the battery, discharging completley 100% is fine only if you do it a few times. about once a month.

When you use your battery proper battery procedure is to discharge your battery to a minimal of 25%. When you reach 25% you should recharge your laptop.

When you are charging a battery it is a good idea to charge it back all the way. Do not charge it up to 90% and then suddenly pull the plug and start discharging the battery again. Let it charge up to 100% and leave the charger is fine.

You can safetly leave the charger plug in for about 4 days strait a week without doing harm to your battery. But it is a good idea to let your laptop use the battery once and a while even if it is for 5 min.

My experience says the more you use it the longer the battery will last. I have a dying laptop battery that only works for an hour now because I consistantly use the electrical plug and dont use the battery. It is a good idea to use the battery for the full lengh of time and then plug in the laptop to recharge it.

No, but you can shorten the lifespan of the battery if you keep it on AC. Every month or so, purposely drain the battery, not fully drain, then charge up. This will make sure that the battery is working properly.

I am so glad you asked this question. I use a laptop all the time of the AC. It didn't even cross my mind that I might be wrecking the battery. And when you think about it, it's only like an electric toothbrush! I've taken notice of your answers and I'll drain mine straight away! Thanks again.
