Both really - malaria so named because in the old days they thought bad (damp) night air was what caused it.

Anyway its related to zoology (study of animals) because the mosquito is what carries it and infect humans when they bite them. Not all mosquito's are carriers. Its also related to physiology (study of the mechanical, physical, and biochemical functions of living organisms) because it affects the human body severely.

As long as you are studying the life of history of Plasmodium vivax, ovale, falciparum, malarie,( a Protozoan, sporozoan) you are in the realm of zoology. This is taught at class 10 in the broad subject Biology. When you fall sick, you go the doctor. He notices the symptoms and signs and examines blood to see whether merozoites are proliferating. He then prescribes medicine. This parasite affects body physiology.Malaria, a disease caused by a protozoan is rooted in zoology. Its effects are ramifying and touch upon branches of physiology, medicine, pharmacology, etc.

It is actually related to physiology, but more specifically with Clinical Parasitology. It is in Clinical Parasitology that the transmission, symptoms and laboratory diagnosis of the disease is discussed thoroughly. It also outlines the life cycle of the specie of mosquito responsible for the disease. It differentiates the types of malaria (there are 4) and how to prevent the breeding of their vector. (the mosquito).

Causal organism of malaria is related to zoology (It belongs to Phylum Protozoa) while mechnism of causing disease e.g. maleria is a subject of physiology.
