learning about ANY culture is great...because ur Learning. u can apply it to ur life, the positive things that u know. staying black has nothing to do with it.. if i were u, i would ask them how much they've "studied" african american history, etc.. if they do study it, fine. but if they don't , they have NOTHING on you. u know exactly who u are, where u came from, and what u are interested in. NEVER be ashamed of it.. and never be bullied into doing one thing or another. it's not like they're hanging around u at night when u read on ur bed, or surf the internet right? if they don't agree, just don't talk about it with them. join some clubs or events that give u a broad understanding of different cultures. make some new friends who are Open Minded and tolerent, and can help u see New things.
remember, always keep Positive, Healthy and Happy people around u.... distance urself from the negative ones. if they don't treat u right cuz u look asian, why do u care what they think when u try to learn more about asian culture?? u are giving them way too much Power in ur friendship, to tell u what to do and how to act. reassure them that u are MIXED and if they dont like it they can find a new friend to chill with, cuz ur OUT. :) good luck

You don't have to 'get rid' of your friends. You can simply make new friends and still stay in touch with the old ones.
Good for you for being so open minded and wanting to learn more about Asian culture. The world is getting smaller every day, and where Asian culture was once something exotic and strange, today Asians are becoming more and more important business partners, with economic relationships springing up daily. It is going to become increasingly important to know and understand Asian culture in order to do business with them, and to maintain good relations with them. Sounds like you're getting a head start on everyone!

Let me tell you, friends they are not. If you are black, it doesn't change the way you are since you have different interests. That is purely stupid. I am caucasian and I'm married to an Italian, that doesn't make me different, only cultured. They lack culture all together. Dump them! Asian culture is cool and there is some great truth to how things work and don't work in the world. Follow your dreams for yourself, not others. It doesn't matter what they think. Freedom of choice is what matters, go w/ your gut feeling on this one.

Explain to them that you Are who you Are and that will not change.
Let them know that you are curious about the Asian culture and you are just exploring.
Also tell them if they were truly your friends they would support you expanding your knowledge rather than try to hold you back.
If this does not help then I would suggest this,
Don't change friends, just don't hang with them as much until you figure out what it is that you need and want, then make a decision.
Good Luck.

There is nothing wrong with learning about Asian cultures, but don't do it because you think you have Asian features, that's an identity crisis waiting to implode! Make new friends, but keep the old, just in this case, keep a distance..........

You know, in the end it's up to you. If you're half Asian as you put it, then I can't see what's the problem in immersing yourself in the Asian culture to learn from it. Of course, you'll have to put up with the narrow minded crap from your "Black" friends because to them you're betraying their culture. You'll also get some crap from Asians, because as far as their concerned, you're Black only and will not be accepted by some of them regardless how much you immerse yourself....the Japanese are the worst when it comes to this.....you'll be a "mongrel" in their eyes.
As you continue to learn this culture, you'll find out who your true friends are. They will be those that will support your decisions. If you even have a couple of friends in the end, then you're lucky. Remember though, friends are nice, but don't try to impress them and follow them when you're not up to it. Best of luck.

if ur constantly living life for ur friends' approval or their opinions about u then that is truly a mistake!! especially if they oppose of wut u do.ur real friends r ppl who support u no matter wut idea or interests u decide to take on (no matter how crazy they may be)..i think go on n do wut u want w/ the asian culture n if ur freinds dont treat u the same..then perhaps its time to pick up a new group...
i know from experices that wheneve i have a friend who always tries to change me or make me do things differently then those are the ones i get rid of first thing....
in this life remember to do things for YOU rather then the approval of others
