I used to play water polo and be in the pool for hours and be fine, but within the last month... my hands prune within 5 mins. And I am talking seriously prune up, and its pretty much just my hands that are like this. I havnt changed anything I do, soaps, water, nothing has changed. I cant figure out why this is happening all of a sudden. Any ideas anyone?

Your hands and the bottoms of your feet are more "water permeable" than the rest of your body because they have more sweat glands in them but no oil glands. So when you expose them to water, and even more so with hot water, for extended periods, the water will begin to go back in just as it is able to come out. When the skin soaks up enough water, which sometimes isn't very much, it begins to expand and prune.
Weather along with humidity and also one's age has a lot to do with how quickly the skin becomes waterlogged.

Sometimes the pruning effect comes from being dehydrated. If you are taking a hot shower it could dehydrate you more. Try staying hydrated. Pruning isn't harmful but you should always drink plenty of fluids throughout the day.

I believe the reason your hands prune when you are swimming or in the tub is because you are dehydrated and need to drink water. Try drinking water before and while in pool and you will see that because you have water in your body you do far less pruning.

Pruning in the hands and feet is caused by the brain, it is a natural automated response to provide the hands and feat with a higher surface area to allow for better grip when underwater.

Anyone whos says its due to your body absorbing water is wrong..
