Check out the footnotes of your copy of "The Waste Land". It's been awhile since I've read it, but I remember that he alludes to Tiresias at one point. Tiresias is a figure from Greek myth who has quite an interesting tradition. I would also, if you're allowed to, check out some art that has been done on the mythological characters Eliot uses. With a little knowledge of their basic stories, you can extract a lot from pictures. For the basic stories, if you aren't allowed to use wiki, check out Ovid's Metamorphoses. I'd also read some Milton.

stable success! i admire Eliot, yet he's a multitude to hack by way of--enormously The Waste Land. (I opted for Prufrock on my enormous paper on him, which nonetheless wasn't common, what with lines like "I ought to have been a pair of ragged claws/Scuttling around the flooring of silent seas"...) properly, enable's see. there are various imprecise allusions to Greek mythology, a lot of which you will choose for to hook up with the easily myths; there is the bit with the Tarot reader, that's somewhat relaxing to dissect once you're accustomed to tarot symbolism; the "activity of Chess" section, which says no longer something in any respect approximately chess, yet sorting the circumstances in it right into a chess activity could desire to easily eke out some stable symbolism; the hearth Sermon...i could desire to probable do twelve pages in this section on my own, pulling in myths and memories from throughout on hearth to connect in... I notably advise checking it out beside a duplicate of Frazer's The Golden Bough as properly==lots of the "well-known" myths interior the poem could be cutting-edge in that e book.
