i haven't played emerald yet, BUT i have played sapphire and ruby... i chose mudkip over torchic and treecko (i forgot about treecko, since i never chose it). if you wanna know why, it's because mudkip has a very nice combination of water AND ground genes (check its type), which, if you are a pokemon fanatic, are opposites. this lethal combination gives mudkip an edge over the two

i chose torchic because its cute, i didn't realise that the first gym leader was a rock type....
