I think either your all being a bit hard on Chancer here or some of you are incredibly stupid.
He has asked a legitimate question and nobody has made an attempt to give an answer.
Why do some lesbians dress and attempt to look like a man?
Is that such a difficult question to answer?
There is a vague attempt of something by a 'butch dyke' as she calls herself but no explanation.
It does happen, SOME lesbians do dress in suits and a tie, cut their hair really short.
Why would someone who finds women attractive want a partner that looks like a man?
I don't think there was an intention to offend, maybe he could have worded the rest a little better.

I agree with the jealousy factor of it all. Not to sound conceited but I am an above average looking male pretty much a pretty boy. I have never had very good luck with getting along with lesbians. Every encounter I have had from being at college or a coworker, social event or consumer meeting ext. I have seemed to be treated terribly by them. And its easy to sense this. For instance I will be having a conversation with an attractive women and they will approach with a demeaning comment or something of the sort or just try to make you look bad when you have been praised or done well in something. I am a not a homophobe by all means I fully respect the lesbian and homosexual community and there rights. But I cant understand what it is. Is it that they wish that they were of the opposite sex because of being attracted females or they are jealous because it easier for a man to become sexual with an attractive women and they are limited and im not making this stuff up either?

There is a massive spectrum that comes along with sexuality. I see your point but I wouldn't call it a "gene gone wrong" I'd just say it's different. People should embrace diversity and celebrate it not be firghtened of it or intimidated by it. I think it's interesting to look at the dynamics of masculine/feminine behaviour, especially in gay culture. I am not butch but I could be said to have "masculine" tendencies that I can only assume are brought out because I am attracted to women, e.g. I feel protective of my girlfriend, I open doors for her etc - I imagine these feeling/this behaviour is uncommon amongst straight women. On the other hand I like quite strong and fiesty women, which could be my biology hankering after something! Who knows, I enjoy the mystery of sexuality, it's all fun :)

Hey yeah not all lesbians/gays are like that but I've definitely noticed...why do a lot of lesbians go for butch girls and gay men are often feminine surely they should just go for the real thing lol I'm not speaking about every gay person just some! Yeah I think they have something wrong with the genes eg lesbians have too much testosterone or something...I dunno Im not a scientist it's just a theory!

I often have people tell me "You don't look like a lesbian!" and my reponse is, "How would you know!?!?" Some women like to dress in men's clothes, or have really short hair, or work with tools, or whatever other "butch" stereotypes are out there... and guess what? A lot of the women who do that are actually *Straight*!!! And I know a lot of straight men who dress well, and iron their clothes and get manicures and would be considered "gay." So, are these straight people that dress or act like that also suffering from a defective gene? Or are you perhaps making incorrect conclusions based on a fear of difference?

OK, How does it feel talking about or judging something you know nothing about? you sound like a complete idiot to those who are butch or fem.
I myself am a butch lesbian, and I don't want to be a man period. First of all my woman would not want to be with me if I were a man and second I like the famine, sensitive, aspects of being a woman... So to me I have the best of everything. I can remodel my house, pay the bills, dress comfortably, and have a hot woman, oh and I never finish first :) ~. My life cant get any better than that. It kind of sounds like you are insecure with your man hood, watch out for your woman, she just might find an awesome butch dyke and live happily ever after..

I cannot accept that it is a gene gone wrong, this would suggest that lesbians and male homosexuals have something wrong with them.
Also it seems like you are suggesting men who dress like females are necessarily homosexual, most of them are not.
There may be something in the genes which enables people sexual preferences, but there are also many influences within society which persuades people to make certain choices, some people who cannot attract the opposite sex, may experiment with the same sex.
I know heterosexual men who identify with women, are you also suggesting there is something wrong with their genes?
Don't you think the actions of some men, can set a bad example for their sons to follow, and they start identifying more with women than men as a result?
Ozbi UATSO He has not asked 'Why do lesbians dress and attempt to look like a man' That is perhaps your next question.

A lot of women with active lifestyles simply dress practically. If you do a lot of walking boots or sneakers are better than heels, jeans are usually warmer than dresses or skirts, men's shirts tend to be sturdier than frilly blouses, none of this has anything to do with sexuality. I knew a lady who kept her hair short because she worked outside a lot and didn't like the bother of keeping it out of her eyes when it was windy. In my experience the stereotypical gay men you describe tend to be in the minority, most gay men like to look like men. Being bi, if I want to have sex with a woman, I'll go to a woman, not to a man in drag. So no, I don't see that you have made any point at all.

I think it more disturbing the number of males who need to "go butch," trying to act like a man when their own sexuality is in doubt.
How many boys are forced into a mold by their fathers who feel theyhave to teach their sons to spit, hike up their scrotum and treat women badly?
I don't thing most of those "dykes" are trying to BE men, or even behave like men. I think they are trying to dress and act in a manner that is comfortable. The sad thing is that there are some people that would rather put such behavior into a category and judge such women within the artificial criteria of that percieve category.
If a woman wants to wear a mullet haircut, dress in a loose shirt, blue jeans and boots, why should she be judged or criticized where a man would not?

Some lesbians appear masculine and some gay men appear feminine because they want to look this way. Because they think it's fun.
Also, we like to signal to other people that we are gay in order to avoid confusion: so other gay people try to pick us up at bars, and not straight people. It's better for everyone.
