Jefferson Davis was a traitor against this country, no matter how many speak up to say he was a great man he committed treason. The entire insurrection called The Civil War was an act of treason

I have to agree with shogun. It is all about perception. Somehow Democrats are perceived as the party that helped black Americans the most, even though this could not be farther from the truth. The Democrats did not wanted to end slavery, they created segregation, and all the other Jim Crow laws. More recently, most Democrats opposed the 1964 Civil Rights Act.
The main reason why most black Americans support the Democrats today is because of the so called "Great Society," massive social programs pushed through Congress by LBJ. These programs were designed to supposedly help raise the poor out of poverty. At the time when Great Society legislation was passed by Congress, a majority of black people were at or near the poverty line; but they were in this very position because of the discriminatory laws put in place by the Democrats for the previous 80 years. However, these very programs that were created to help end poverty; ended up doing more harm than good. Most poor people just became addicted to government handouts and continued the cycle of poverty.
Now fast forward 40 years, after a couple of generations, many black people have been able to climb out of poverty and have become successful, but through hard work and achieving good educations--not handouts. However, many attribute their success to these social programs created by Democrats. But just by taking a quick look at most big cities in the US today, will show you that these programs where complete failures. In most, poverty, crime, and violence are much higher today than they were in the 1960s.
What a "Great Society" we have become.

The civil war is greatly thought to be about slavery. It was the issue of slavery that was the ultimate in the fight of State's Rights versus the Federal Government's right to govern.
Jefferson Davis was considered a hero because of the stance on State's rights. Right or wrong.
The Republicans aren't pulling in minority votes because of perception. Liberals tend to provide social programs that allow people to in essence live off the government. Conservatives tend to provide programs that will allow you to make a living for yourself and encourage you to do so.
The strange thing is that most of the media are saying that Barak is more "black" because he is a liberal, than Michael Steele, who is conservative. Yet, Barak is as close to "black" in America as George Bush in terms of upbringing and social clout.

First, please leave Robert Byrd out of it. He has never hidden his past--and it never came back to bite him like Lott.
I saw Lott's apology, and I only saw a person who wanted for this matter to go away--not that he was truly remorseful what he said.
This is a person who is about the same age as Emmitt Till, who was tortured and murdered in Money, MS 51 years ago, which made headlines around the world, but Lott maintains that he was unaware of the event.

"Racist, inbred, depending contained in the South, un-American." See, that is what i replaced into speaking about the different day. that is hateful and it makes liberals look determined. Following the recent unemployment numbers, i wager it will be envisioned. not purely are you utilizing a speech from a guy who isn't even contained in the commonly used public eye anymore, yet he replaced into speaking extremely about a letter Davis wrote to his brother-in-regulation (or brother) about what the federal authorities could and may not do. of route you probably did not use the completed quote. Liberals do not look to attempt this too many times (Ahem, "Rand Paul is a racist" nonsense.).
