It's a bit much... $600 is a month's house payment for a middle class family. My parents never would have bought me one.
I still prefer my original 8-bit NES... they truly mastered the art of fun and replayability. Most games nowadays are so story-driven and linear that there's no point in playing them again once you've beaten them. By the time you unlock everything and get to free-roam mode (if there even is one), you're pretty much like, "Eh, who cares..."
While I do have a PS2, I almost always rent my games; as I've found so few worth spending $40-$50 dollars on, when I can rent (and beat) them in five days for $5.
Oh well... to each their own.

The people who can't afford the system or don't like video games will think it is rediculous, and the people who have the money or need the "it" thing will get it as soon as possible. Worth is simply a value of desire. As to your points though,
Wireless controllers have been around for a long time and every current system has them, they work fine, not sure why they should fail as you claim.
Sony is taking a risk with Blu Ray that is true, but like all risks it may pay off for them and it may not. Far too early to write it off now, and the technology is very expensive too, check the price on a Blu Ray DVD player sometime.
Nope, not many games at the moment. If I remember correctly the PS2 launched with 12. The thing about new systems is that developers have to become familiar with the technology and that takes time. No system lauches with 100+ games.
The games are the same (at least in concept) as current games because that is what is popular and current right now, also because, really how many different ways have there been to make basketball, racing, and first person shooter games. As well as my previous statement about designers needing time to adjust to the new hardware.
The backward compatibility is why the initial projected release numbers were lowered so they could work on the issue.
The only thing you are ever paying for is the new features on something, otherwise why bother to ever buy a new anything, other than when it breaks, and then just buy the exact same one.
$600 is the price, and they will sell out before they hit the store shelves. And why does $2500 embarrass you? Because you can't afford it? It's not your money or mine, so why care if someone has it and is willing to spend it, more power to them. Be nice if they used it to end world hunger, but again, not my money so not my choice.

Not so embarrassing, if you consider:
A PlayStation 3 console is more powerful and has more processing speed than most desktop and laptop computers owned by the general public. How much did you pay for your computer?
Probably more than $600. Granted, you can do more than just play games on it, but a really great gaming computer? We're talking upwards of $2,000.
Who says the wireless controllers will fail? Logitech has been making a 2.4 GHz infrared controller for PS2 and not only does it have super-long battery life, you can use two and they won't interfere with each other.
Not very many games available, of course, but that's because the system just hit the shelves. Let's not forget that when all other game consoles come out, there are almost NO games to play for them. The SNES came with either Super Mario World, or Super Mario Kart. There were no other games. The N64 came with Super Mario 64, or Mario Kart 64. Et cetera. As the system grows older, more companies will make more games for them. There are already some widely anticipated titles that are not due for release until mid-year '07.
I'll give you that Blu-ray isn't guaranteed to be the next video format, but who cares? All PS3 games will be made on Blu-ray DVDs, so that's nothing to worry about.
All the games are exactly the same as PS2 games?
Reference:
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, for PS2.

Now, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, for PS3.
http://media.ps3.ign.com/media/714/714044/vids_1.html
Are you honestly going to tell me those two games look the same, in any respect?
And I have not heard anywhere that that PS3 is not 100% backwards compatible.
$600 is a great deal. Sony will actually be LOSING money at such a low price. Then again, all consoles decrease revenue when they're first released, and the companies make the revenue back from game sales. In any case, I think $600 is more than reasonable.

So much is wasted on banal past times, why not PS3?
Like any new technology, the price starts high, but will eventually come down.
I have too many other distractions to put that kind of money into a gaming system. I have a 19" TV, no cable, and dial-up internet, so I guess you could say, I'm not a techie, but my money goes into other things.
I'll just wait to see what happens. I only have a PS2 because it plays PS1 games. No reason to stick with Sony if it doesn't support "old" games.

I agree with you. You will buy the expensive gaming system one year and a couple years later they come out with a new version and suddenly you have to have that one. The silliest thing I ever saw was when they came out with a PlayStation 2 and then a couple years later they came out with a PlayStation 2 that was thinner and smaller. I bought my brother a PlayStation 2 game and he still had the old PlayStation 2 and it wouldn't work on it. How crazy is that? So I pretty much was screwed since we opened the package already and most places won't let you return opened video games. So my Christmas present was a waste of 60 bucks. I also think that the prices of new release games for these machines is ridiculous.

I don't completely agree that it's stupid but people are getting a little to desperate. For $600 I'd rather get the Wii and tons of games for it. The games are getting too expensive too. For me $50 was already enough to ask for and now it's $60. But, whatever stupid way people use their money is up to them.

The Wii will fee an identical everywhere. The comes with the controller and the joystick attachment. you're able to desire to to get him yet another the two areas of the controller is 60 greenbacks. you do no longer prefer reminiscence playing cards or something. If he might prefer to apply the wii on line you will possibly seem in to the adapters you're able to purchase to realize this. under pressure or on the spot. The video games fee 40 9.ninety 9 yet you are able to actual purchase him a factors card that he can use to purchase old sega and nintendo video games from logging on along with his wii. The video games are rather low-priced on there and he in simple terms downloads them. wish this helped. I have been given a Wii and that's fing surprising even my female buddy who hates video games loves it!

I agree. It's stupid. No other word for it. If you want one, just wait until the people who bought it for $600 get tired of it and want to sell it for $100...or less. It shouldn't take too long.

I think it's stupid and you know what? You have to go and buy the games too so you end up spending more than $600.
