I think they're fairly good, actually. Interesting increase in volume the past week - a delayed reaction following earnings.
They have a good position in the marketplace, PCs are commodity-like consumer appliances and it is much easier on the consumer to purchase from a Best Buy than to configure a mail-order Dell - at $500, saving $50 is not worth the additional hassle of not having a physical store service to bring the thing into when something goes wrong.

The upcoming Vista will offer an increased value proposition to
consumers - Apple has shown there is a significant segment of the market will in to pay a big premium for a good operating system Windows will be able to recapture a portion of those buyers.

With the high-end LCD's that are HDTV capable - Gateway also has a decent cross-over multimedia product - a 24" widescreen monitor/ HDTV is viable product up against the things over in the TV section.

If you knew as much about stocks as I do, you would laugh at this question (not to hurt your feelings). I don't know if you've heard the advice before "Don't invest in microsoft, invest in the next microsoft." Well that is exactly what you need to do. Figure out a company that is surging forward like a locomotive, not one that might somehow possibly be able to squeeze the last drop of profits out. I don't know if they are profitable right now or not, but if you have any doubt, then don't invest in them.

They redesigned their brand, which is now called Emachine (I bought one and the rebate form was sent to Gateway. This is how I know). Comp USA sells these things.
