When I was little I didn't like walking on cracks in the pavement. Grown out of it now.

You have to remember that street drains were not well constructed in those day and in history many people have fell in and were hurt or killed. And you really have to remember that all superstitions are just that a superstition and not all of them are based on facts at all. Nor have I read anywhere that someone was saved by saying bread and butter unless they were starving and living in Europe where that superstition started... lol............. So you are just going to have to test my theory and not say bread and butter the next time something happens that causes you to say those most famous word bread and butter.

I'm not supersticious. None of that bothers me. I'll walk under a ladder any day of the week - even on the 13th ! lol And I've never heard the one about the 3 drains. So, I wouldn't worry about it if I were you.

How can it possibly have any effect????????? And if you do accidentally walk over one how can saying bread & butter 10 times make any difference???????????????????. My mother believes in loads of stupid things like this & she hasn't got a clue why!!!! She wont walk under ladders, wont buy clothes/household items that are green, must say rabbits, rabbits, rabbits on the first day of the month before she says anything else, all sorts of doom & gloom for Friday 13th, wont cross knives, turns mirrors over during thunderstorms..........oh the list is endless. She's barmy & you are probably not far behind with this one!!!!!

When i met my boyfriend he used to tell me off for walking over three drains and now i automatically avoid them too. We don't say "bread and butter" but my boyfriend says he has heard of that before so you're not completely mad

Have you tried seeing a counselor about possibly being OCD? (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder)
Because I've never heard of that one before and I have no problem walking over drains... even when there are ogres underneath waiting for me to fall in....

that brings back memories. It used to be: 1 drain for love,2 for good luck and 3 for bad luck.

I've been doing this for many years! Don't remember where i heard it was bad luck from, but it's a hard habit to break. Just keep doing it, you'll only worry if you don't- it's not doing you any harm after all!
