That was J'onn J'onnz the Martian Manhunter who is similar to Superman in powers except he can also change his shape and has telepathic abilities which Superman does not have he is a few thousand years old in the comics. This season will see the formation of the Justice League so J'onn will make another appearance in about 3-4 more episodes.
Oh yeah and he frickin' LOVES Oreos which is why Clark kept finding them. He's also quite private and philosophical which is why he did not introduce himself.
Batista's character would've been pimpsmacked around by the Manhunter in some ways the Manhunter is more powerful than Superman.
