you may place bleach in spray btl and spritz a lil inside and wipe out with damp rag.
don't get the bleach on the outside of the shoe as it will discolor.

keep the shoes inside where its warm and when warn as normal, spread a lil baking soda inside to continue the absorption of the smells...not a bad habit to continue if you do have foot odor.
Gold bond powder is also good.

luck to ya , save the shoes

note: dampness and cold and bad circulation are the culprits of mildew.

I have no idea what materials your shoes are made from so I am going to say take them to a shoe repair store and ask for a professional opinion. I know Sun and heat will kill the spores there for removing the odor. You can try some less invasive ways meaning not apply a odor over the mildew odor. Get some baking soda and seal shoes in a bag with the soda for a few days. There is also wiping them down with vinegar however I do not know what materials your shoes are made from so I am hesitant. Some say cat litter and baking soda do wonders.

Well, I would try to re wash them by using some type of color bleach then place the fabric softners in the soles and put them in the dryer on air dry. And you can also place the fabric softeners in your shoes to keep the odor down. Good Luck!

Besides over the counter shoe powders and spray, try putting them in the freezer for 24 hours. This should kill the stench causing bacteria.

the smell is mildew, a type of mold. normally the best way to kill mold is chlorine (clorox). if you can remove the insoles, do that and soak them in a solution of 5 parts water / 1 part chlorine for a few minutes. wring them out and let them air dry. for the insides of the shoes, put in some baking soda, before you return the insoles.

You might try re-washing them with detergent and some white vinegar. It takes odors out of anything.
