i like it because thats what he does for you, and this is sorta (not only trying to cheer him up but) letting him know that you appreciate the flowers when he brings them to you

There is nothing wrong with buying a man flowers, Just think about which kind you buy, Get something he likes and not something you like.
It also depends on your Man, some are so paranoid that they put on bravado attitudes of Men don't need anything but if he is not one of those then go for it.
All buying flowers says is, I'm thinking about you! It does not insinuate anything else.
But choose the flowers carefully, either ones you know he likes or somthing not too fragile and feminine.
But here's an idea that may help.... book a weekend away in a secluded spot for just the two of you to get him away from what ever it is thats dragging him down and make the wknd all about him. Do the things he likes and share his interests for the weekend. They say a change is as good as a rest!
It works with my man!

Flowers are good and its the thought that us guys apperciates. If anything make some sandwiches and plan a senic trip (even the park) and have a picnic. Cheap but memorable. This way you take him away from his stress and its just you and him. If anything strip for him we always like that.

Yes, bring him a flower. Not a big bouquet but something small. I had a gf that did that for me one time and it felt great. It is something out of the ordinary, but thoughtful.

As a man, I've been bought flowers before, and I didn't like it. Is he a drinker? If so, get him a nice bottle of his favorite liquor, or some of his favorite beer with a bow/ribbon on it. If he isn't a drinker, then a card should do.
