I don't know. I haven't had a drug in 2 years or a drink in 1 yr. The other day was my birthday and I went to work the next day and a co-worker asked me what I did for my birthday--did I go out and get drunk? I replied very seriously that I would not do that and he laughed and said he was just joking.
I think it's like asking a diabetic if they ate a pound of sugar for dessert.
It was insulting and insensitive, but at the same time, I have to be careful that I don't over-react or I'll end up doing something stupid. When this happens, I find it best to find another recovering addict to talk with for a minute.

Most people have no concept. I'm a former addict. I've been clean since I was about 18. It's not so much of a struggle as it used to be. I still see people who smoke up, act stupid, etc. I've never really been exposed to an alcoholic until this year. It's very hard watching him drink himself basically away, but he has to make the choice, not his friends for him.

I know you're p*ssed; just take a deep breath.
I think some were just getting into the P&S smartass thing.
Also remember that most folks don't have a lot of knowledge or experience with substance addiction and don't understand the realities.
Besides, I know you stand on your own and can't be brought down by idiots.

Simple, it's because they are idiots. They are totally clueless and some of them are even too young to be commenting on the subject anyway. They are supposed to be in school right now learning something but instead they are showing their age and their ignorance here.

Agreed. Some people are just cold hearted, gutless people and the best advice to to ignore them. Someone who has been dry for 5 months should be applauded for their efforts.
