It is pronounced "MADEREIN". (Consonants are pronounced more or less the same way as in English. "A" sounds like a in father, but shorter. "I" sounds like ee in meet, but shorter. "E" sounds like e in met.)

Spell it phoenetically in a Kana script. I think hiragana would be the better one to use for a feminine name.

If you get the characters from a source that just lists letter-for-letter substitutions, or use a font that does the same, you're a sucker. Get the characters & proper selection of them from a reputable source.

Going by the chart on the wiki page and what I recall of seeing other western names rendered in kana, I *think* the romanization of the kana rendition would be Materinu. The 'a' would be pronounced as in 'ah', the 'e' as in 'eh' (Canadian pronunciation), the 'r' slightly rolled, the 'i' as in 'bambi' but a bit shorter, and the 'u' like in the French 'bleu'. I think the 'te' would be the primarily stressed syllable, and the 'nu' 2nd.

My 2nd guess would be Materina, but I think 'nu' is usually used in place of an ending 'n'.

Speakers of Japanese are encouraged to correct anything I got wrong. I'm here to learn too. :)

you don't. names don't change when you translate to another language. there might be a name like madeline in japanese, but it wouldn't be madeline. your name stays the same in every language. :)

マデリン is how I'd spell it. If it doesn't come up, find a katakana chart and find "ma" "de" "ri" and "n". BTW, "de" is "te" with two dot marks after it.

If you pronounce the last syllable "line" like "telephone line", then you need to write: マデライン "ma" "de" "ra" "i" "n".
