I use gorilla glue and ouch... I'd say to cut out with tiny/fine scissors as best as you can.. and if it makes too big of a hole, use scraps of it... and glue new carpet fibers to the hole... using gorrilla glue in between. Yes, I've seen this done on TV and it seems to have works well.
OR, cut out the square of carpet with the glue and cut out a same size piece of new carpet and with the fibers running the same direction as the original carpet... glue it in place.. after rubbing it a few times, if the match was made properly/well.. the lines of the cut should vanish. Yes, I've seem this done also. Both seemed easy enough.

Clean up any glue that is still wet by blotting it with a white paper towel or terry cloth towel.

Soak the object in warm soapy water if possible and try rubbing off as much as you can.

Pour a little bit of acetone-base nail polish remover on a white terry cloth. First try this on an area (like a closet) before using on your carpet. Some carpets it can discolor or eat through.

Dab at the dried glue until it dissolves.

If all that fails, try a product called Goof-Off or Z-7 Debonder.

Don't use solvents such as gasoline or paint thinner.
