Heres my take on Manning
By the time he is done, I have no doubt he will be the best QB ever. The problem is, how many rings will he have. If Marino had won a SB there would be no doubt as to who the best QB in history was, but because he didnt that honor is still up in the air.
My top 5 of all time
1.) Elway
2.) Marino
3.) Montana
4.) Manning
5.) Favre
For every record that Marino doesnt hold, its held by Elway or Montana. For every record Marino does hold, Elway is second. The only reason I give the advantage to Elway over Montana is because of the team around them. Elway created superstars, Montana had superstars.
After Montana left the 49ers did pretty damn well. After Elway left, the Broncos are still struggling to return to glory. Last year was the first time they made it to the 2nd round without Elway, and that was because they had a first round bye.
Like I said, by the time he is done Manning will be the best this planet has ever seen, but until he's done, he still has some work to do. Dont count your chickens b4 they hatch.

Peyton Manning may audible but the plays are called for him.
Manning has a terrible QB rating and win loss record in the playoffs. The good teams blitz the QB well and that's why Pitt and the Patriots have beaten them. Manning is a statue and not mobile and if you rush him he'll make mistakes. HE has incredible WR and a good OL so he needs to do it in the post season before people really think of him as an all time great.

You youngsters are forgetting Sammy Baugh and Johnny Unitas!
My top list would be about like this:
1. Montana
2. Unitas
3. Elway/Marino
4. Roger Staubach
5. Peyton Manning
Peyton is a force of nature and may finish at the top in the end, but he's got to do better in the post season for at least a couple years to show he can come through in the clutch. I put him ahead of Favre and Brady anyway.

All quarterbacks need a off. coor. I do agree with you that he is one of the best. I rank him at the top with Brett, Aikman, Unitas, Marino, Elway, Young, Bradshow, and Stabauch. I do believe this is his year to make it to the BIG TOP. I love his quit decision making in hostile situations. He confuses so many defense with his play changin calls in the middle of a play start. Peyton will go on to pass alot of the guys records. He already passed Unitas records last week and last year. Peyton will continue to become one of the best QB'S to watch.

I think there is some credit to the no off-coord claim. If all off. coords were removed, and all QBs were required to call all the plays, Peyton would dominate all other QBs. I'm sure most people know by now (they seem to say it every colts game) that Peyton is given 3 plays by the off-coord, a left run, a right run, and a pass, and he decides which play to call based on what he sees each snap.

What do you base that on? That he "calls his plays" yeah I'm suspicious of that. They have speakers in the helmets for a start. Second I think maybe the play is called and they line up with a different play so he can audible to the right one and throw off the defense with the quick snap. Throw them out of postion. Oh and Terry Bradshaw won FOUR SUPERBOWLS calling his own plays.
