Why do you think having won a price means it is better than others??????

I would recommend
- Black Holes & Time Warps. Kip S. Thorne
- Paralell Worlds. Michio Kaku is a good one too.

But those are my tastes, they may not be the right books for your BF.

What is it that makes you think that a guy -your boyfriend in this case- would want to read an award winning book...? Is he that un-curious, just reading stuff "literary institutions" made up of complete strangers say is good material? I sure as hell wouldn't want to read a book that has won awards, those people are all in cahoots with the publishers. Who else do you think funds them...? I don't mean to be rude or anything, but really, I suggest you give him a book he'll remember, something out of the ordinary.

I don't know if any of these are award winning - but sometimes something doesn't have to win awards to be good.

Does he like dogs? If so, then he might like 'Marley & Me' by John Grogan... a funny & sad slice of one man's life.

Does he like mountain climbing? Then he might like 'Touching the Void' by Joe Simpson ... a climber left for dead who survived against all the odds.

Or how about 'A Short History of Nearly Everything' by Bill Bryson .... as it is about nearly everything there must be something in it that your bf would enjoy.

Failing that why not look for an autobiography or biography of someone that your bf really admires. Or a book that is about a hobby of his he particularly loves. You know him best.

Team of Rivals by Doris Kearns Goodwin (about Lincoln's cabinet), or The Things They Carried by Tim O'Briend (about Vietnam).
