Maybe I'm too cautious, but I'd hold off for another while and keep an eye on the rates. Then go and enjoy the January sales in NYC!

The current rate is $1.89 per pound. Shop around to get the best rate but this is the current rate. The Post Office does commision free currency exchange. Credit cards usually do a good rate if you have one to use there.

You will be able to buy anything you want at this price so shop shop shop (just don't buy any DVD's coz they don't work here).

I would wait till your out there - the pound is quite strong at the moment and normally strengthens over the Xmas

Get a bit changed - Marks & Spencer usually do the best rate and don't charge commission

That is a good rate and this is a good time of the year to fly. However, it might be a bit busy next weekend since it is Thanksgiving. Other than that, I hope you enjoy America.

It'a a gamble. You should get more than 179 now. Don't go to highstreet banks. Shop online.
