An English degree prepares graduates to enter many different careers. Because of literature's emphasis on human values and human interaction, graduates are prepared to work in a variety of occupations including publicity, personnel, research, sales, teaching and training. Students with backgrounds in liberal studies are potential candidates for executive and management positions. Undergraduate English majors often elect to enter graduate school in library science, law, medicine, business, and international affairs, as well as English and communications. An English major has much to offer that is essential to our society and has a wide, rather than narrow, choice of career opportunities.

Teaching
With a BA and completion of the Licensure Program, you can teach in the public schools at the secondary level.
With a BA in English, you can teach English as a foreign language while living in foreign countries. An MA in TESOL (Teaching English as a Second Language) opens more opportunities abroad, but work in third-world nations may make frequent travel back to the States difficult because of low salary scales. Work in Japan, Korea, or Hong Kong, however, may mean high salary scales.
An MA, MFA, or Ph.D. opens teaching opportunities at colleges and universities. State Licensure is not required for teaching in a college or university.

There are many things you can do with a B.A. in English.
Researching what your career choice can be is a good start.
Check out the link. It is from a University and gives some ideas on career options for English Majors:http://www.waldorf.edu/academics/english/careers.htm
Check out this link to research your salary: http://hotjobs.yahoo.com/salary
If you have not already done so, go to your university's career development center to inquire what steps you should take.
Hope all works out.
God Bless.

You can go into Marketing and PR. You can do copy editing/proofing for magazines. Executive assistant. Grant writer. Technnical writer. College recruiter. Gov't job.
The list is quite endless. When I started majoring in English, I always asked my professors what I could go into, and they always said "anything." Like you, I was looking for slightly more specific answers. Writing and communicating well is important in so many jobs. If there is something you are interested in, try to take some extra classes in it (like marketing) and do internships to build experience.

The ddegree itself will open all sorts of doors. Your career doesn't have to directly related like teaching or writing. You could do just about anything in industry or commerce that interests you - I hear that Mi5 are recruiting for spies!
