Sounds like you need to install the motherboard chipset drivers- both the sound and USB ports fall into that category (along with the LAN card and integrated video, if any). Is this a computer you just built or recently reformatted and reinstalled from scratch? The motherboard drivers are usually on a CD that came with your system.

i will deal with each of these problems seperately
sound........this can be caused by a number of reasons such as installed software or hardware changes, but its quite straightforward to fix them
go to start>control panel>soundsand audio devices>then go to the audio tab>there you should see a playback option, the box should have the name of your sound card or motherboard(if using a onboard sound(chipset drivers))
if the name in the box is wrong, drop down the box and if the sound device is there press the right one and then apply
if this method dosent work then you need to update your existing sound drivers,to do this go start>control panel>system properties>hardware>device manager>expand sound and audio devices>double click the name of your sound card>then click on "update driver",you should then let windows automatically find the correct driver,if it was working before then theres a chance that the drivers will still be on your hard drive, once you have updated the drivers ,its allways a good idea to restart your p.c
with reference to your usb ports, its the same method with them as you did when updating your sound drivers, but usbs are very prone to malfunction, they will work one minute and then stop the next, what i do is normally buy a pci usb card, they are inexpensive and can be fitted in seconds, also they all come in usb2.0 these days which is much faster than the old type
good luck

well, that means that the wire conncecting the usb port and the sound is not reaching the motherboard, maybe the wire is damaged, go to the nearest computer repair shop and let them have a look at.

If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.

You need a technician to take a look. Have you spilled any fluid near it? Get it looked at by a computer technician.
