The minimum wage should be abolished all together. Now before you give me a thumbs down, think about it: The minimum wage rises wages higher than what people would be making without it, that is the whole concept because if it were less than they would get no law would be needed. When companies have to pay low level employees more than the worth of the work they do, they have to raise their prices to match the difference. The people who get a raise from mimimum wage end up right where they started in "real" money because of the inflation their money is worth as much as it was prior to getting a raise. However the Upper and middle classes that do not recieve a raise suffer. The american dream is upward mobility, and all that minimum wag increases do is drag people that are already successful down, it does not help the poor/underprivileged at all. Secondly minimum wage prices jobs out of the market. Generally people who make minimum wage are young or have few marketable skills, so they get jobs that do not require expertise. Now lets say for example a small business has a 14 y/o employee who comes in on the weekends and sweeps the floor. They pay him $4 an hour. When a minimum wage is inacted, many businesses cannot afford to give their empoyess raises, so the floor sweeper would not get a raise, just fired altogether. Another arguement that I hear is "a living minimum wage". It is not your employers problem if you cannot feed your family, we get paid for the value of the work we do, not what it costs to live. Why should someone who has no skills make enough to feed a familiy of four? Its simple supply and demand, if you have in demand skills, you get paid more. If we are so worried about the minimum wage? isnt $50 an hour more compassionate than $7.25? It doesnt make a difference, as long as their is a minimum wage inflation will correct for it and everyone ends up where they started except for people not making minimum wage.

Minimum wage increases are vote getters for the politicians. Uninformed, low wage earners think it sounds great. I'm a 35 year veteran of the retail world and I can tell you that when minimum wage increases retail prices follow. Minimum wage earners will still have nothing left at the end of the week and everyone above minimum will have less.

Yes they should raise it automatic with inflation. Really min. wage should be $23. a hour. Not $5.15. Believe me Tennessee most top pay here $6.00 a hour.
