I'm sorry for your losses. I have a similar story but on a longer time scale...since my graduation from college party in May 2005, 3 people who attended have passed away. My mom's best friend, my best friend and yesterday my grandpa. I'm not sure why things happen like that but after talking to people at work they all have similar stories. I think it's just how life happens and no sense can be made of it.
Not to mention my grandma, best friend and grandpa all passed in November 2001, 2005 and now 2006. (It's a tough month)
If it weren't for the bitter the sweet wouldn't be so sweet.
Best of luck to you.

For some reason, three seems to be a magical number. No one really knows why but most religions acknowledge it. For example, The Trinity in Christianity, and the Three Phases of the Goddess and Life in Wicca.

Bad stuff also happens one at a time, 2 at a time etc.
The 3 thing became a common reference in WWI when the troops in the trenchs would light cigarettes. By the time the 3rd person took a lite of the same match, the enemy had time to target on it & usually got the 3rd guy.

I'm not in the least superstitious... I walk under ladders and like the number 13... but, funny you should ask, since... I will not marry a third time;-)
My dad died, my granddad died, my aunt died all inside six years at two year intervals.
My ex husband died, his dad died, his brother died, again, all inside two year intervals.
My marriage ended, my home was lost, my mum died, all inside six months.
I believe we are tested at certain times, and we come up stronger for it... and more understanding towards other people's pain.

When 3 events occur in quick succession we remember it. We are programmed to do so! Who ever mentions the good things that occur in threes, fives or whatever ? We put numbers on events to "get a handle on it ", to make sense of why bad things happen to us. We never count the good events because they do not hurt us.

They don't. People seek patterns, that's how we learn. The problem here is that we often impose patterns where there are none. You just wait till 3 things happen and say: "There! Look!" You could say they happen in 60's and it still works, you just have to be patient.
