Well, firstly I would just like to tell you that there is absolutely no need for internal exams unless you are in premature labour or you happen to like having OBs put their fingers in you.

However if you feel he isn't listening to your concerns then you need a new doctor. You can absolutely switch, I would start by asking your family doctor for a referral to a different OB. Or get recommendations from your friends. Then just call them up and see if they are taking patients.

You need to tell the doctor what it is you are looking for in a doctor.

You should not have a pelvic exam until you are very close to your due date. There is no reason for that at all until you are close to labor so the doctor can determine if labor started, i.e. if you are dilating or effaced. Some doctors do not have a great bedside manner. The most important person to have with you is your husband. Why does it matter who will catch the baby? Also, the nurses are great at helping. Stay with this doctor and change for the next baby.

Wow, I feel sorry for you, for having to deal with your doctor being this way. I think by now you should of had more pelvic exams! And he DEFINATLY should be measuring your stomach. Thats how my dr. figured out I was overdue! I was 40wks measuring at 44...?

If I were you I would try to find another doctor to go to. But with you being so far along in your pregnancy I don't know how another doctor would feel, not knowing all of your history and stuff, yeah I mean I know that he would want your charts and stuff, but with your doctor, not charting anything... Another OB would have to be worried about your baby and the things that are going on inside of you...

I hope this helps.

Good Luck and God Bless

Goodness that sucks...as for pelvic exams...does he have any reason to be in there? They prefer not to do pelvic exams if its not necessary. My ob/gyn said he would prefer not to do the pap test if I'd get my GPs last test he'd forego it. He hasn't done a culture or anything since my first visit. But I should think now that you winding down to your last few weeks, he'll start checking your cervix at some point if not all of your visits. Don't mess with it if it ain't broke is a good philosophy for any doctor to follow. I'd be more worried about a doctor who is spending to much time down there for any ole reason. Now not justifying or consoling your concerns is another issue...but at such a late stage are you really willing to have to get to know someone in such a short period?

Well I had that problem. I dont know where you live, but I live in Ontario, Canada, and here we are not allowed changing docs. BUT I got out of it by going to a Midwife! They are free here anyways. She was awesome and everything worked out well. But the midwife also sees you more often if wished and she is there for your birth NO MATTER what. If you have a doc, you might not always get that doctor! But if you decide to take the drugs during pregnancy she cant deliver the baby but she will stay right by your side ne ways! Good luck - I know how you feel!

I think they just do pelvic exams early on in pregnancy. Later they listen to the babys heartbeat and measure your stomach to monitor the babys growth.

You can ask for referrals to other OB's through friends or even look them up in the phonebook or net. Keep the one you have until you meet someone new and decide you like them, so you aren't left without a Dr. Good luck!

as far as the pelvic exams go...I'm 33 weeks and I havent had any either...I don't think they start that until 36 weeks...and for him not listening...he probly just doesn't have a very good bedside manner...I've heard of people changing doctors this late in the game...but I don't think its recommended...
