The best antivirus is your sanity. I have been using Windows XP on my laptops for a couple of years without any antivirus and never had a problem.
Try disabling ActiveX and every unsecure thing in Internet Explorer options. I would suggest using mozilla or firefox web browser. Try not to visit untrusted websites, don't download anything from insecure sources, use your common sense and you will be fine.
I would suggest using Symantec antivirus corporate edition though.
Good luck :)

I have not been able to find any 1 single program that works. Zone alarm pro will block ports to prevent unwanted access to your computer and will tell you when and who is trying to get in. We use that in combo with Ewido anti virus and the 2 together have blocked us from getting anymore Trojans and viruses as we had gotten 3 of them before installing the combo and none since. My son-in-law works on computers at Walmart headquarters and this was recommended by him.

I use the CA Internet Security Suite. Since I have installed it, I have not gotten a single virus, spyware, trojan, or anything like that.
You can get a free 1 year trial from their website: http://home3.ca.com/SubscriptCenter/TrialCenter.aspx?lang=en-US

Try ZoneAlarm. The free version will protect you from Spyware and Viruses. It's a firewall. The suite is even better.
