It depends on several factors... if just started getting a period it's normal to be irregular as your body is adjusting to the harmones of womenhood.
Some find a regular cycle by going on the Pill. To regulate the flow, reduce the cramping etc...and it usually can pin the day you'll start after being on them awhile. But it's not an option for every women or girl.
Midol a few days before u feel ur going to start period is good to reduce bloating, cramping and continue through your cycle to minimize symptons.
Honestly u should be talking with your Ob-Gyn or clinic staff for them to provide options based on their medical knowledge.

When the woman is young it is very natural to have irregular periods. The periods usually get regular after the first sexual intercourse or after having the first baby. But not having your periods regular is not a big deal it is nothing scary. Taking medication for it by your hand is not good. Best solution is to see a gynecologist.

You should go talk to your doctor. It is not un-common to have irregular periods, but if it becomes bothersome then maybe try going on birth control, as mentioned above the birth control will help it regulate it, make it an easier period and within a few months you can go off it.
If your not willing to get on birth control, via religious or personal reasons, than try talking to your doctor about your allergies/asthma. A study about a year ago published that women who suffer from asthma or allergies are more likely to have irregular periods.
Either way your going to have to talk to your doctor. Good luck

Sometimes just going on the pill is the key to balancing out the hormones and regulating your periods. There are several on the market and you and your doctor can decide which is best for you. No one likes the suprise in the panties. This is probably your best option.

Do you exercise too much maybe? Too much of a good thing can contribute to it.
Are you under weight? Skinny women can even stop having periods.
How's your 'diet'? Eat well and be well (NOT saying you're sick)
Everything in moderation helps.
Not sure if it'll specifically work for you but de-stressing and relaxing regularly helps.
Maybe it's something simple like these thoughts.

sometimes the doctors will put you on birth control pills to regulate periods if they get really out of whack. but a lot of times if you give it a few months they will even out. take care of yourself..eat well, exercise and get plenty of rest.
