I am renting, and moved in in may. My fiance was able to buy a house and we would like to move. I am the only one on the lease here, but I get help from the state. The lease is a 1 year. Can i be sued even thought I dont have a job, and draw from the state?

Of course you can be sued.

It may not make sense for them to sue you - unless they wanted you paying at a nominal rate for years - but yet - nothing to stopyou being sued just because you are unemployed.

Well, you could be sued for the balance of the lease. If you give enough notice and your landlord is able to re-rent, you probably wouldn't be. Your best bet is to talk to the landlord.

well...according to the law...anybody can be sued for anything. however...i don't think that you will be sued. it will be a waste of time and money for all parties involved.
more likely...your landlord will either tell you to keep paying rent until he finds a new tenant or you will have to pay a breach of contract fee. this should be stated in your contract/lease agreement.

A lease is a legal contract with all of the attendant ramifications, yes you can be sued.

You could be held to the lease but I would talk to the owner. It is always easier to talk than fight. I let people out of leases if they have been good tenants and give me notice.
