What you are seeing is probably a blue screen of death (BSOD). There are many causes of it, mostly hardware problems. I cannot tell you the exact cause until you provide more information about any recent changes to your computer ( hardware upgrades etc). It may indicate a broken driver or a failing PC component.

This normally occurs when you have installed any new hardware on your computer or either installed software that makes changes to the core windows files.
The only way to resolve this problem is first remove the hardware ( or device driver that you installed) and then refix it.
If you have installed a software application, do a system restore.
and see if it helps...and only last resort action is reinstallation of complete windows.

pffftt .. Windows is the reason.
Can be because of the hardware installed improperly, can be because of the faulty driver for some hardware piece, can be because of some program overloading your system which causes in system malfunction... practically anything ... you have to look through your log history to find out what is wrong, or at least to put you on the right track. Right click on my computer ---> Manage ... click on system alerts, system logs, etc. see what errors you get at the time when your system crashes, and then you can ask more questions here :).

If I said I knew for sure I'd be lying to you... but based on recent experiences, it's because you don't have enough memory to run the component or application that you are trying to run. Basically the best thing to fix that is to save a bunch of stuff onto disks/memory cards instead of keeping them on a pc.
