I'm trying to figure out my purpose here. Is it to get a good job and be a good person to everyone else? Is it to learn as much as you can about the rest of the world and see other perspectives? There has to be some sort of meaning behind all of this. Should we just go on living ignorantly about all of the problems in the world and only worry about ourselves? I know this answer will vary from person to person, but I'd be interested in hearing what you have to say.

You should try to be a good person to everyone else. Marcus Aurelius states that our only job is to be a good human being. I think that if you look into any religion, you will find that they have the underlying values of not killing, being an arsonist, robber, etc.. and to be kind, understanding and forgiving of other people. In our western culture, getting a good job and possessing nice material things is highly valued, but it may leave you feeling empty as a person if you have to be rude or hurt people to acquire those things. Basically be the best you can be at what you do and live life in a manner in which you are comfortable with.Good lukc finding what your looking for.

The purpose of life is the same for everyone: finding your own purpose for living. What is it that you think you need to do and how are you going to go about getting it done, while you are still alive?

Once you figure this out, you have discovered the purpose of life.

All of the things you mention is the purpose of life. Freud believed that a person has to find a job where he can be happy and also feel productive.

i personally believe in reincarnation... meaning our souls have more than one lifetime on this earth, in different physical bodies... during every incarnation we are different people (obviously) and our soul (the presence of god) records, watches, and unconcously guides us... i also believe we have pre-set paths that we lead, not so much making choices as what to do next, but our choices lie in how we react to our situations and what we learn from our experiences.. life to me is all about experincing and learning... our jobs essentially, then are meaningless, unless it helps develop you as a person.. if not that, then it just helps you keep a roof over your head so you can concentrate on larger, more self-involved issues instead of worrying about how to stay warm at night, etc... although if you notice, the people of this world who are lowest and most rejected and have the least of material possessions who are the most brilliant spiritually... strife teaches us a hell of a lot about who we are as people ( i know from personal experience, here!)... and being a good person, and giving of yourself selflessly is always the apitome of a soul's development.. to show great character in the face of the 'enemy' (desire, greed, selfishness, etc) is exactly what Jesus was showing us.. not sitting in a church and falling asleep every Sunday and throwing money in the plate so the man in the front of the room can drive a cadillac

I think that our whole purpose in life is to learn to become angels. We go through trials and tribulations during our lifetime to make us patient, kind, understanding, strong....all of the virtues we would need as an angel in the afterlife. It's the only explanation I have for floods, fires, Katrna.....tsunamis, starvation, diseases. We are buiding our characters to be holy.

There is no "purpose" to life other than to better the species. I believe that God put us here to "test" our free will - to see if we will choose good over evil and to see if we will love and care for one another.

The only way to give your life purpose is to do something great for humankind. Barring this, we can only do for each other. We can only try to see God in each person and treat them with love and respect - to help them on their life's journey.

Each of us is at a different place along the spectrum of humankind's existence. Those of us who have been blessed and who have attained a level of satisfaction in life owe it to the others to help "pull them up" with us.
