I think it is because they use the colour black a lot.
This is not considered the most cheerful colour and i suppose it might make you wonder about thier outlook on life.

To many people judge a book by it's cover. I don't think there's a thing wrong with goth. There are just to many people in this world that want to lay judgment on things they don't under stand, and since the look you choose to go with reminds them of death they have decided to associate it with death. As for me I think it's a good thing to express your self how ever you are most comfortable. Just remember there are a lot of shallow people in the world that just aren't going to agree with you, but as long as your happy that way then why let it bother you.
Just so you know I don't dress goth.I just believe in individuality.

Ignorance, stupidity, lies, hate...take your pick.

A study published in the British Medical Journal in 2006 showed that while it is true that people had a higher rate of attempted suicides before becoming Goths, it's also true that the same people had a *lower* rate of attempted suicide AFTER becoming Goths. Being "Goth" doesn't lead to suicide; it's a sign that the person has found a sense of community and better mental health.

I was never a goth, but I understood the people and felt many of the same things (but no suicide attempts or self harm).
