I'm asking because I don't want to go to some shady place and have photos of my changing floating around on the Internet.

call your mayors office and check. look for state pageants on the net like miss usa or teen usa are pretty big. miss usa gets into miss universe...the real official pageants have offices so you might wanna cross check like you can check online for the different pageants in your area then check the phone book or call directory assistance if they really exist. visit their office and see. get a memorandum of agreement and an application form (application form is key) they should also be able to tell you the requirements. once you talk to the people, notice if they mean business not just wanna take your picture for nothing. miss universe and miss america are owned by donald trump...go check...try doing your state or city pageant from state you can go to miss america then to universe.good luck.
