It is, but its just not news worthy anymore. Here in the UK the DEFRA are still monitoring birds that have died suddenly, particluarly wild birds such as swans and ducks.

Bird flu is still very much a threat although significant advances have been made in finding a vaccine.China recently announced that they had developed just such a vaccine http://english.people.com.cn/200608/29/eng20060829_297691.html copy and paste this link for details.
Even with a vaccine that will supposely protect someone from the flu the threat is still there and the impact of a break out of human to human transmitted bird flu would be devastating since the production, distribution and administration of a vaccine would come much too late for most people since this strain is particularly virulent with those infected succumbing to the virus within days of infection. The great flu outbreak of 1918 which killed 3 out of every 1 people infected is thought to be a Chinese originated Avian flu just like the current H5N1 strain. The pandemic killed between 20 to 40 million people before it almost completely disappeared on its own. Had the virus not mutated (or humans developed an antibody for it, scientist arent sure which) it is conceivable that almost 1/3 of the planets population could have died from it. Remember, International travel was not common in 1918 and it is believed that and outbreak of a similar flu today, with international travel as it is, would wreck havoc on a global scale unlike anything experienced before.

yes it is its only not in the news so much because when it was in the news a lot people had only just found out about bird flu and everyone was panicked and didn't know quiet what it was now everyone is a little more relaxed so it less publicized.
