ok so 2 length sides (6x-2) and 2 width sides(x+3), all added together, make the perimeter (100):
2(6x - 2) + 2(x+3) = 100
Distribute the 2s through the parenthesis:
(12x - 4) + (2x + 6) = 100
Combine like terms:
14x + 2 = 100
Subtract 2 from each side:
14x = 98
Divide each side by 14:
x = 7

6x - 2 = Length

x + 3 = Width

100 = The perimeter

- - - - - - - - - - - - --

Perimeter formula

P = 2L + 2W

100 = 2(6x - 2) + 2(x + 3)

100 = 12x - 4 + 2x + 6

100 = 14x + 2

100 - 2 = 14x + 2 - 2

98 = 14x

98 / 14 = 14x / 14

7 = x

The answer is x = 7

Insert the x value into the equation

- - - - - - - - - - - -

Check

P - 2L + 2W

100 = 2(6x - 2) + 2(x + 3)

100 = 2[6(7) - 2] + 2(7 + 3)

100 = 2[42 - 2] + 2(10)

100 = 2[40] + 20

100 = 80 + 20

100 = 100

2(6x-2)+2(x+3)=100
12x-4+2x+6 = 100
14x+2=100
14x = 98
x=7

100 (or P)= 2xL + 2xW
2*(6x-2) + 2*(x+3)=100
12x-4+2x+6=100
14x+2=100
14x=98
x=7
width is 10
length is 40

2[6x-2+x+3]=100
7x+1=100/2=50
7x=49
x=49/7=7
