Lac is a waxy substance produced by an insect L. lacifera. The insect looks more like a giant mosquito and lives in the forest. It produces this red gummy substance in order to protect itself. The substance then dries and becomes very hard. Its used for sealing, water proofing, coatings, making bangles and jewellery, art and craft and even in tradional medicine.
