From what I understand the Cortana letters were written before the release of Halo 1, but the content of the letters makes me wonder if they take place between the events of Halo 2 and Halo 3. Is there any evidence to support that?

Actually, I beleive they're from the time of Halo 3.

The way she talks in the letters is a lot like she talks in the trailer.

Complete with letter #1 stating "THIS is the way the world ends."

And Letter.. uhh.. #2? stating: "It is a blurred line that lies at the edge of Godhood and Insanity. Guess which side of it I am on. "

It just seems to me she's right at the end of something.. We know she's kinda' crazy in the trailer, but question is.. would she write the letters before, or after the events of Halo 3?

I think she's Rampant (ai insane) after all the extra halo knowledge and at time spent with the Flood (Gravemind)

I honestly think that the big badguy of Halo 3 is going to end-up being Cortana..

Matt Soell of Bungie had THIS to say:
"One will be, to you long-timers, unimpressive.
The second will probably cause great joy among some segments of the populace.
And the third is...well, Cortana talks about that one.

#1 is memories, #2 is wishes, #3 is dreams. "

To put that in context, I don't think he meant Halo would be unimpressive. I think it all has to do with Halo's ties to Bungie's "Marathon" series. Old school marathon Gamers might not like part 1, but most folks would like part 2.

Matt later restated it, saying:

I will reiterate one of my points from last time:
#1 will probably not be too impressive to you guys: the few/proud/etc.
#2 will be.
And #3 is, in the words of my friend Jim Ruiz: "The coolest thing I've ever seen on a computer."
