OK ...I'm in a total panic. I am 7 months pregnant, and did not realize until the end of the first trimester (I had a couple of instances of pregnancy related bleeding that I thought were my period). My husband and I would regulalry drink on the weekends ... pretty heavily sometimes. During the first trimester there were a number of birthday celebrations, vacations, summer parties, etc. As soon as I realized, I stopped drinking entirely. I had an ultrasound at 21 weeks to date the pregnancy, and was told everything looked perfect, but I'm still freaked.
PLEASE do not be judgmental or tell me about the harm I've done. I do enough beating up of myself ... and do not need any harsh words to add to the stress. Instead, if you could just pass along stories you know where others drank this long or longer and had healthy children I'd really appreciate it. Thanks so much ....

I was a heavy partier when my son was conceived. I had been binge drinking, using illegal drugs, not eating, not sleeping. It was crazy.

I was SOOOOO freaked out just like you are... I wouldn't even sip a drink of caffeine during the rest of my pregnancy. I did everything by the book.

I am the proud mother of the most perfect, healthy, outstanding 3 year old boy you could ever imagine.

What you do in the first trimester (or at least until you know you are pregnant) somehow doesn't harm the little ones. I think God keeps them safe until we are ready to know.

Ok first and foremost you didnt know you were pregnant so you cannot beat yourself up over it. You need to talk to your doctor. He will be the best source to advise you on any and all concerns related to this. You are not a bad person. As you said you had bleeding that turned out to be pregnancy related, but thought was your period.

Relax. Congratulations on the baby!

It is not your fault you didnt know. I drank one time heavily on New Years Eve, and found out a week later I was 4 weeks pregnant. My daughter was healthy. But sometimes alls it takes is one drink, and they can get FAS. Sometimes they can tell by the sonograms, and sometimes they cannot. I really hope all works out well and you have a healthy baby.

I have a friend who smoke and drank throughout her entire pregnancy and the baby came out healthy and there was nothing wrong with him.

Stress is not good for you or for the baby. Try to relax and trust your doctor who said that the baby is fine. Good luck.

What do you get when you marinate a fetal brain in alcohol?

We'll know when you have your kid.
