I had another sonogram this morning because the doctor said I was measuring four weeks ahead. The tech said that at this poing the baby should weigh about 2.5-3lbs and was estimated to weigh about 3 lbs 9oz right now. If the baby keeps meauring this much bigger will the doctor induce labor? Or will they encourage a c-section? I would do anything to avoid a c-section if I can help it. I don't know if they would induce though either. Has anyone had this happen to them? Thanks!

Discuss your position with your doctor. Most doctors are willing to induce rather than do a c-section as long as the baby is "ready" to be born. I am guessing they have ruled out gestational diabetes or will if the baby continues to gain at a faster than normal rate.

As I approached my due date I was told by my Dr (who had 40 years experience under her belt) and the ultrasound tech that the baby was going to be close to ten lbs. The Dr thought maybe over 10, she said that he looked very big to her. Guess what? When he came out, he weighed 7lb, 4oz. He was much smaller than estimated. Remember it is an estimate. And resolve yourself to the fact that the end goal here is a healthy baby, no matter what. Natural birth is great, but things happen and we have to let the birth plan go and be ok with it. Don't use your energy worrying about something that is out of your hands. Make it clear that you would like to have the baby natural and then let nature do it's thing. Everything will work out in the end, and one way or another, the gift at the end it AWESOME! Congrats and good luck!

Well, first off, don't get in a panic. It isn't good for you or your baby. Secondly, Do not worry about it at all. I went for my 20 week ultrasound and they told me that my baby was way bigger than she should have been. Closer to the end of my pregnancy, I had another ultrasound and they said that my baby was going to be 9 pounds+! Well, they were WAY off.....my baby was born 7 days past her due date and she was a healthy 7pounds 11 ounces. They were off by more than a pound. My dr told me that they can't really tell, that that is just an estimate. Could you possibly be a little farther along than you think? I really wouldn't worry about it at all. Good luck and congrats!

Well, most of the babies born in my family are extraordinarily big and we havent had too many problems with that. The most difficult birth in our family was me (I was just over 10 lbs when I was born), but that was not due to my size, but rather the fact that my head was caught in a tilt in my mothers pelvis and I was a month over due. That was the first c section in our family and my mother only had to have another one with my sister because so much damage had been done to her uterus. All the other babies we have had have been over or close to ten pounds and perfectly normal births. My cousin, who was bigger than me, was born naturally in just under 45 minutes!

I was measuring about 4 weeks more than my original due date said, and my baby was apparently bigger, but I had a beautiful boy weighing at 7lbs 4 days over my due date (the sonogram due date)

I had a 9.3lb baby by C-section.....First they induced me and I suffered all day long. Finally they decided the baby was too big to deliver normally. they took her C-section. My 2nd baby was a scheduled C-section and it was a piece of cake. I went in with my make up on, no inducing, no suffering, they gave me the medicine for no pain and took the baby...Was so much easier.. Don't fight it.. You could be saving yourself alot of pain by going C-section..

For your and the babys safety, they may do one of the above. There is nothing wrong with either...you should always expect anything when it comes to pregnancy. Go in acouple weeks from now and see if what they say.

I don't weights are always accurate on Ultra sounds, my second child was measuring small with two ultra sounds (same nurse did them) they changed my due date (added1.5week) ended up he was 11lbs. I think it depends on the postion of the baby and the person performing the ultra sound. When you doctor measures and feels your stomach they can get a more accure size.
