Sweetie, I wear the smokey look all the time and I love doing it for myself and others. I learned from watching, reading, and experimenting. You first want to make sure your eyes are primed for it. Your eyebrows are neat and fixed and you have applied a few specks of loose powder under your eye to catch the eyeshadow that will fall. You don't want black eyeshadow or any dark color settling onto your makeup on your face. Doing this helps to catch it. Now the steps:
1) Apply a neutral color eyeshadow at your browbone or over your entire eyelid. Sometimes I apply color from a white pencil exactly right underneath my eyebrow to really define the neutral color, but you don't have to.
2) Apply a brownish color from the crease of your eye down to the lash line and blend.
3) Apply the darkest black at the lash line and blend.
**** Remember, Babygirl, you have to blend, blend, blend because one thing you don't want is for everyone to see is where your eyeshadows begin.
4) Line your eyelids with black eye pencil.
5) Define your eyelashes with at least two coats of mascara. I personally do three because I have long eyelashes and I like for them to stand out.
6) After you are sure that everything's blended well and you've done all the prior steps, take your powder brush and whisk away the loose powder that you had underneath your eyes. And follow with a neutral lip color of your choice (any color would do, but if you're wearing a smokey eye you want people to notice your eyes, not your eyes and lips).
***** You don't have to use just gray or black eyeshadow to create the smokey look, women of color can go with purples, emeralds, and maroon....etc. Just make sure to remember you want your lips a subtle neutral color. Don't be discouraged if you don't get it just so the first time. It takes practice. Soon you'll be able to do it so quick and easily, you'll telling your friends how to do it too. Good luck.....

You will need
•3 shades of eye shadow
•A dark eyeliner
•Some mascara
•An eye shadow brush
•Some translucent base powder
Step 2
Choose a colour
Classic smoky eyes are created with one colour, and can be achieved by using dark brown, grey or any dark colour.
If you have small eyes, you should avoid using black
You will need three eye shadow shades of that colour – dark, medium and light and an eyeliner of that main colour.
We be using will be using shades of grey.
Step 3
Choose a brush
The key to smoky eyes is successful blending. This is best done with an eye shadow brush.
Step 4
Prepare the skin
Smoky eyes can quickly become panda eyes if the eye shadow does not stay nicely blended.
Step 5
Line the eyes
Starting from the inner corner of the eye, draw a dark line of eyeliner along the lash line.
Try to keep this on the lashes filling in the spaces between them with colour. The line should get thicker as it moves towards the outer corner of the eye.
Step 6
Keep it symmetrical
Once you have finished one stage on one eye, do the same on the other eye.
It is the easiest way to keep both eyes exactly the same.
Step 7
Apply the highlight shade
Firstly apply the highlight shade along the brow bone and up to the eyebrow.
You can also put a little of the highlight powder in the corner of your eye,
between the tear duct and nose.
This will brighten up the eyes and avoid the dark shades to make the eye look dull.
Step 8
Apply the medium shade
Secondly build up the medium shade on the eye lid, starting at the lash line working up to just beyond the crease of the eye.
Blend the colours well so there are no clear lines
Step 9
Apply the darkest colour
Be very careful with the final and darkest colour, it can easily become too much and the eye will look dull. Start from the outer corner and slowly and with the narrowest part of the brush taper the colour to about half way across the lid. Blend this in to the medium shade.
Now with a large powder brush, sweep the powder eye guard away in an upward motion.
Step 10
Assess the eye
At this point step back a little. It is easy to become focused on the eyes and apply too much. Before continuing, look at your face as a whole to see what's needed.
Step 11
Adjust to your own eyes
If you have deep set eyes, you can build up the darkest colour to half way up the lid. If you have small eyes, it's best to leave this as a very thin line. Most people will be somewhere in between.
Step 12
Simple alternatives
If all of this is too fussy for you, you can try some simple alternatives.
Only apply the dark colour, from the lashes to the crease of the eye, and blend well. Quick and easy.
Or you can just apply the dark colour to the eye socket, and blend up and down a little – this is good for people with long eyelids.
For the simplest option put on a very heavy line of eyeliner all the way around, and smudge with a cotton bud to give a simple smokey look.
Step 13
Finishing touches
If the make up isn't too smoky already, you can add a little eyeliner, here, along the lower lash line,
And, inside the lower lash line
To finish off the smoky eyes, apply mascara.

You don't have to use a dark gray or black shadow to achieve a smokey eye. I am african american and slightly dark than you. You can use any rich deep colors such as chestnut brown, plum/deep violet shadows. Use a kohl eyeliner(I recommend MAC Kohl liner in Smolder) and Maybelline Blackest Black mascara and apply to top and bottom lashes. Use a highlighting shade on the brow bone...a light shimmering gold shade will work perfectly. Also, when apply shadows you need to blend...you don't want your shadow to look like wides lines on your eye lids. Buy good quality eye shadow brushes...don't use the little sponge tip brushes that come with the shadow. The main brushes you need are for conturing, blending and a hard angled brush for eyeliner.

For your eyes, use a dark grey color. Make it darker at the rim of your eyes and blend it upward into the crease of your eyes and lighter to the brow. Also, use black eyeliner pencil on the inner rims of your eyes. Be careful. Use lots of blackest mascara With such dark eyes, I wouldn't use a strong lip color. A neutral color that is a tiny bit darker than your own lips and top with a shiny clear gloss. What a pretty girl!!!

No and I repeat No! Do not use mascara to darken your eyelids. That's dangerous. First, line your eyes with a jet black eyeliner. Take a Qtip and roll it along the edges of your eyes. Next, Take a silver eyeshadow and lightly put a coat on each eyelid. Cover with a blackest black eyeshadow by Maybelline.
Since your complexion is kind of dark:
Line your lips with a wine red lip lining pencil. Then, fill in the lines and color your lips in with the pencil. Cover your lips with a CLEAR lip Gloss. try MAC's LipGlass. Yes , Glass.
